We are taught that being envious is a “bad” emotion – that we should feel ashamed of it and push it away. To be honest, I was one of those people… until Glennon Doyle, author of Untamed, came onto our podcast, Better Together, and flipped this idea on its head. And let me tell you all, it BLEW. MY. MIND. According to Glennon, envy can be used as a guide towards what we really want in life. Hence, why envy can be a good thing. What we are envious of is actually a clue: an indicator of what we truly desire. So if you’re envious of someone who has a bigger house or is succeeding wildly in their careers or even in their personal lives, perhaps those are the very things you desire most. Knowing that, one can take more specific action steps toward making those items of envy a reality. Making note of these feelings and instead of viewing it from a negative lense, you can use it to map out your true goals and desires.
Glennon shared many other eye opening tips and breakthroughs, too. For anyone interested in watching the full Better Together episodes featuring Glennon, check out Better Together with Maria Menounos, your Life Improvement series. Subscribe to Youtube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts.
