We’re told to eat our greens, exercise regularly, get enough sleep, and avoid processed foods, among other things. But what if some of the things we think of as unhealthy practices are actually good for us? The Regular Guy Friday crew explores how some seemingly “unhealthy” practices can actually be beneficial for our health. So, if you’re tired of feeling guilty about your guilty pleasures, learn how some of the things you thought were bad for you might actually be good after all.
Unhealthy Practices That May Actually Be Good for You
The first tip is to embrace moderation when it comes to indulging in unhealthy practices. For example, if you love eating junk food, you don’t have to completely give it up, but instead, use moderation. This means that you can enjoy your favorite snacks occasionally without feeling guilty or depriving yourself. Moderation allows you to have a balanced approach to your health and wellness, without feeling like you’re missing out on the things you enjoy.
Don’t feel guilty
The second tip is to let go of the guilt that often comes with indulging in unhealthy practices. Guilt can be counterproductive and can lead to negative self-talk, which can ultimately harm your mental health. Instead of feeling guilty, try to reframe your mindset and think positively about your indulgences. For example, if you eat a slice of pizza, focus on the enjoyment of the taste rather than the guilt that might come with it.

The third tip is to consider the mental health benefits of some unhealthy practices. For example, you can enjoy a healthy meal followed by a small indulgence or treat, or you can schedule time for exercise and relaxation in your day.
Listen to your body
The fifth and final tip is to listen to your body and be mindful of how you feel after indulging in “unhealthy” practices. If you notice that a certain activity or food makes you feel sluggish or unwell, it may be time to reassess your choices. By tuning into your body and being mindful of how it reacts to different practices, you can make informed decisions about what is best for your health and well-being.
Instead of feeling guilty about indulging in some of our favorite things, like junk food and binge-watching our favorite TV shows, we’re encouraged to embrace moderation and find balance in our lives. By doing so, we can create a sustainable approach to our well-being, and even experience some mental health benefits along the way!
