Did you know that domestic crime and online scams are up 5% during the pandemic? To help us deal with the increased safety concerns around our country, Maria Menounos welcomed former secret service agent and Spy Games co-host Evy Poumpouras to share some incredibly valuable, PRACTICAL insight into how we can better increase the safety concerns that are dominating our daily lives. Enjoy these three amazing tips from Evy!
Designate a Hard Room In Your Home
If someone is breaking into your house, evacuate and call 911. However, if you can’t get out, you want to “harden up” meaning get to a room or space that has a lock on the door FROM THE INSIDE. Bathrooms are great for this. Closets work, too. Create whichever works for you in anticipation of unfortunate break ins. When in your Hard Room, lock the door, call 911 and wait for help.
Take an online CPR class!
Because of the Covid crisis, first responders are busier than ever and may take longer to get to you. By learning this skill, you now have the power to help a loved one, and possibly save their life. Covid has revealed itself to be a primarily respiratory illness which then moves to target our cardiovascular system, so a strong and applicable awareness of CPR is one of the best ways to empower yourself, and your loved ones during this time!
Be Mindful on Social Media!
We are constantly taking pictures of ourselves, our pets, and our stuff. It is easy to forget that a simple picture can give away a lot of information about where you live, what you have, and when you’re home. Be mindful when posting to not compromise any personal information that may incentivize burglars. Think twice before posting that IG of your goregous new laptop! You never know who may be on the hunt.
