3 Essential Content Creator Tips from Hannah Stocking

Hannah Hart Better Together with Maria Menounos

Am I creative enough to be a creator full time? What happens when I get writer’s block? How much time does it actually take to make content? If you’ve ever thought about a career in the arts, you’ve probably asked yourself at least one of these questions.

Internet personality, TikTok sensation and YouTube star Hannah Stocking shares her struggles and advice in all of these areas and more on Better Together w/ Maria Menounos.

Here’s what we learned by watching…

Have you ever wondered if you could be a creator but don’t feel naturally creative enough? Well you’re not alone. Hannah never even realized that being a creator was an option for her, until she stumbled into it.

“I was set on becoming a doctor, and science has always been pretty easy for me. Being creative has not,” Hannah revealed to a shocked Maria Menounos. “I guess I just didn’t exercise that part of my brain at that point,” she elaborated.

While she has always been into science, Hannah didn’t find her creative side until she met King Bach (who was a massive vine star at the time) at the gym. He convinced her to use her inner creativity to think of an idea for a Vine, and clearly it paid off. Hannah recounts, “My first vine went viral. I got 100,000 followers in one day. I was like Mom, I’m famous!”

Is it just me, or do we all dream of calling our parents and saying that one day? Anyway, if you’re curious if you’ve got “it,” but you’ve never exercised your creative abilities, maybe now’s the time! Who knows, you could become a viral sensation.

The Stigma That Being A Content Creator Is Easy Is FALSE

We’ve all heard people question (or possibly questioned ourselves) what do influencers and content creators even do? Is it really that hard? The answer is YES.

“There’s a lot of stigma around people who create content,” Hannah shared with Maria. “The stigma being, ‘oh it’s so easy anybody could do that.’ But really it’s a grind. It’s coming up with the concept. It’s casting, getting your friends in, the props, shooting it. I edit all my stuff too, direct it, everything. And then It’s just everyday you have to pump out content on all these platforms.”

Okay, lesson learned. If you wanna be a creator because you think it will be a breeze, think again. Maybe being a doctor would have  been easier after all?

You Don’t Need To Be Born Creative To Be A Content Creator

Have you ever wondered if you could be a creator but don’t feel naturally creative enough? Well you’re not alone. Hannah never even realized that being a creator was an option for her, until she stumbled into it.

“I was set on becoming a doctor, and science has always been pretty easy for me. Being creative has not,” Hannah revealed to a shocked Maria Menounos. “I guess I just didn’t exercise that part of my brain at that point,” she elaborated.

Creativity Doesn’t Always Strike at the Most Opportune Times

When someone creates as much content as Hannah, it’s reasonable for us to wonder how she comes up with so many ideas! Luckily, she addressed this by saying, “You can’t really force creativity or good ideas. You really have to just let it come to you. And then when I am in that space I’m just like everybody get away from me!”

Sounds like me when someone tries to hug me during a California heatwave. Sorry I digress, back to Hannah. “Then I just come up with all these ideas so I can stack up for the times where I have writer’s block or some creative block.”

As she said though, you can’t force it. That means sometimes you have to listen to your creative genius, even when it’s not an ideal time. “Right when I am about to go to sleep, that state of being half awake, half asleep, I come up with most my ideas,” Hannah admits.  As for how she remembers them? “Then I just roll over and just like write them in my notes.”

Sounds like Hannah sacrifices a good amount of REM sleep for her fans!

So what do you guys think? Are the long hours, sleepless nights and questions from your family at thanksgiving about why you didn’t become a doctor worth it? Let us know below and make sure to watch Better Together w/ Maria Menounos on Youtube and Apple Podcasts.
