Organization is the key to happiness. In my book The EveryGirl’s Guide to Life, I explain how I keep my life organized, from my cabinets to my closet to my daily schedule. But I can’t get over how this Forbes article perfectly describes how millionaires plan their days. Take a look at the various steps to planning an extremely productive day and let’s see if we can all adjust our schedules to make the most out of our days!
- Begin with a morning ritual
Some millionaires begin their day with an amazing workout. They don’t hit the snooze button, rather, they get up and do something productive with their first 60 minutes upon waking up. Other millionaires start with an “hour of power.” As I mentioned in my previous newsletter, I start my days by using Tony Robbins’ priming exercise. I say, if you don’t have 60 minutes, take 10 minutes for yourself – your body deserves at least 10 minutes!
- Identify most important tasks based on their values and goals
Millionaires ask, “What is the one thing I can do that will get me closer to my goal?” To me, knowing your goal is the first step. Then making sure to dedicate at least ONE thing in your day to help bring you closer to your goal is so important.
- Millionaires spend their most important time in the early AM
I know one of the first things I used to do when I woke up was to check my phone, scroll through emails, look up the most recent news stories, and browse my social media sites. Now, I like to spend my mornings priming, going on a walk with my mom, or even exercising! And I don’t check my emails until after breakfast – I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to dedicate my morning to ME and not to emails! Starting off my day this way allows me to have more energy to keep me hustling throughout the day!
- Avoid meetings
Meetings tend to be a waste of time. They last much longer than expected and truly, how productive are they? If you must schedule a meeting, make an agenda beforehand so the meeting is quick, easy, and to the point. This goes for all types of meetings – interviews, doctor, etc.
- Schedule email processing times
This is fascinating – we’re all attached to our phones, right? But some millionaires don’t constantly check their phones for emails. Rather, they spend three times a day, for 21 minutes each time, reading through emails. Not only does that relieve massive stress because each email doesn’t become a task; instead, scheduling “email reading” into schedules make for a much more efficient day! As I’ve mentioned on my radio show “Conversations with Maria Menounos,” I’ve created an “out of office” email, directing people to the appropriate person (i.e. my agent or my publicists) to get their emails answered. This has allowed me to stay away from emails as I’ve pointed requests/inquiries in the right direction! So much less stress on my plate! Now I only look at my email periodically instead of constantly!
- Millionaires make it home for dinner
I remember when I would grab fast food on my way to work or to a meeting and that fast food would ultimately drag me down. Not only are fast food locations typically unhealthy, but in order for me to go-go-go, I need to take care of my body and feed it nutritional items so I can maintain that high level of energy. My dad Costas has become quite the cook in our household – he’s been making countless soup recipes, all with organic vegetables! Not only am I excited to come home for these meals, but they’re all super healthy, thus giving me the energy I need to keep my mind and body focused!
